3-day course on Experimental Design

3-day course on Experimental Design

Dear colleague,

This extra newsletter from Norecopa is to remind you of the FRAME Training School on Experimental Design that is scheduled for 27-29 March in Bergen, Norway.

This will be the 16th course of its kind. These Training Schools are extremely well designed and give the best possible tuition from world class presenters, in a friendly and informal atmosphere.

This is the second time that the course comes to Norway (report from the last time).

The city of Bergen on the West coast is within easy reach of the most spectacular fjords in Norway, if you wish to extend your visit. Bergen airport has direct flights from over 30 European destinations.

Thanks to generous sponsorship we have been able to lower the registration fee, and we have introduced a special non-residential category for those who wish to organise their own accommodation.

Registrations have so far been lower than we had expected, based on the response to the last course.

We have to make a decision on 7 February as to whether we will run the course, because of our commitments to the event hotel.

Please help us to spread word of this course to anyone in your network who needs a thorough understanding of experimental design.

More information, including the link for registration, can be found here

We hope to meet many colleagues in Bergen!

with best wishes,

Adrian Smith

Description of the course

The Training School will:

– Provide training in experimental design techniques;
– Give an introduction to statistical methods to ensure data is analysed correctly;
– Highlight legal and ethical considerations when using animals;
– Give an opportunity to evaluate procedures before putting them into practice;
– Provide a chance to meet with other researchers to discuss ideas and exchange expertise;
– Stimulate engagement with the 3Rs

The Training Schools are highly interactive and include lectures, group discussions, and individual exercises.

The programme is structured to lead participants from simple experimental design and statistical ideas, through more complex methods and analysis to effective presentation of findings.

Participants are also able to discuss their own research problems/experiences with the expert tutors.
