Have your say in shaping the 2026 Replacing the Use of Animals in Science Workshop!

Weโ€™re excited to announce that, with support from international and local partners, SAALAS will host a workshop on Replacing the Use of Animals in Science in South Africa (planned for late 2026 in Gauteng).

To make sure the workshop is practical and relevant, we need your input to shape the focus of the event:
๐Ÿ‘‰ What replacements have you wanted to implement, but faced challenges with funding, training, or access?
๐Ÿ‘‰ Could non-animal derived antibodies, training tools, colony management software, 3D models, virtual dissections, or environmental health monitoring help reduce animal use in your facility?
๐Ÿ‘‰ Are there non-animal alternatives for toxicology or other models you wish were available locally?
๐Ÿ‘‰ Do you have ideas of alternatives that could be developed locally?

We are seeking information from individuals and institutions in South Africa about the current challenges in transitioning to non-animal alternatives in your research facilities.

We invite you to share your experiences, needs, and ideas regarding the replacement of animals in research, testing, education or training in South Africa.

๐Ÿ“ฉ Share them via https://lnkd.in/dE4xkUnK
or email us at president@saalas.org
โณ Deadline for initial input: 12 November 2025.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Please include details such as specific replacement models, the equipment, funding, training, or resources needed to overcome barriers.

All feedback will be anonymous and will directly shape the 2026 workshop agenda and future webinars.

Letโ€™s work together to grow the use of innovative, non-animal alternatives in South Africa.
